    Travelogue Part 2: August Chennai

I don't know what it is, but there's something about Chennai in August. Not summer, not monsoon, not winter (he he I gotta be kidding!). But some vague haziness about the town, throw in a shower here and a shower there, it makes the weirdness complete. I love walking along the Cenotaph lane, where some consulates and corporate guest houses are there. What I loved most this time was the beer sessions in Mowbray's Inn; they've made that conference hall in the basement into a bar, so you have 2 bars in a floor now. The new bar has a life-size TV screen. Three of us had a great time there. The beer was great, so were all the complimentary snacks.

I was surprised to find girls in a bar in chennai. Man our town's made progress, if you wanna call it that.

Top 5 Reasons to Upgrade to a Blog*Spot Plus hosting plan

There are as many reasons to upgrade to Blog*Spot Plus as there are reasons to blog
in the first place. It lets you do it all with more style, more ease, and more power to express your ideas. Here's a few of the things a Blog*Spot Plus will give you:

    1. Image hosting. Customize your page design with your own graphics, share pictures from your digital camera (or anywhere), and even upload photos straight from Blogger Pro (optional). Also: Put your webcam on your blog.
    2. Multiple pages "beyond the blog." Create an about page, a photo gallery, or any other type of page you want to flesh out your full-fledged web site.
    3. Multiple blogs on the same site. Many people like to publish different blogs
for different interests. Whether public or private, team blogs or personal bookmark lists, you can
now have all your blogs at you.blogspot.com, under different filenames or directories.
    4. No ads (or your own ads). Unlike free Blog*Spot, Plus sites contain no imposed banner advertising. You can even put your own banners up, if you like.
    5. Use your choice of web-building tools. Blogger is the easiest way to update your site on a regular basis. But there are many easy-to-use and advanced tools that can assist you in creating a killer site—FrontPage, Dreamweaver, HomeSite, Flash...—whatever your choice, they can be hooked into your Blog*Spot Plus site.

Travelogue Part 1: A place called insomnia

[I had a 10-day vacation and I am presenting the travelogue in 3-4 parts. This is the first; hope you like it- Suman ]
I have been to discotheques in Chennai and I still believe that EC41 is the best in the country. But the insomnia club situated in Le Meridian in Bangalore is something worth talking about. My girl friend and I landed up at the over whelming, opulent Le Meridian and they showed us the way to Insomnia. We met 3 bouncers at the door of the club who were all smiles and one of them said what can I do for you sir? with the thoughts is my outfit too shabby for this joint? Am I ill clad? Am I gonna be an incongruity? raging in my head, I managed a feeble smile. They punched some rubber stamp on our wrists and said; go right in sir, entry is free before 9 p.m.. My sharp sigh echoed in the disgustingly rich lobby and I know the bouncers caught my grin; one of utter joy. Can you imagine entering a club FREE? So Chithu and I make ourselves comfortable in one of the tables in the pub. The walls were coloured with contrasting colours; those that bring that psychedelic feel you know? And the lighting, thanks to the blue spotlights on the ceiling, brought about the surrealism to the ambience, and we are still talking about the pub. I ordered for a beer, we had another 30 minutes to kill before our friends made it.

They arrived and we hit the dance floor in the basement what hit me was the size of it, no man, it wasnt big it was way too small and that kind of things that I had to witness (phew!). If you are a stag and you got 500 bucks on you, please go there when you are in Bangalore Chithu was disgusted with what people were up to and my now infamous Tappankuthu dance. We managed to walk out of the place at around 2a.m. Well, nice experience but why am I writing this here? FREE ENTRY for couples, before 9 pm. boss!

    ...and I sang!

I started of somewhat skeptically but the audience liked it i guess, 100+ of them were screaming 'once more!' I was overwhelmed. I also did another number 'koi kahe kehtha rahe' from Dil Chahta Hai'. By the way this is the first time I am singing on stage... boy am I happy!

    I am singing!

Tomorrow (10th August 2002) I will be singing in our office culturals. I am singing that soul-stirring number jiye tho jiye from 'Saajan', sung by Kumar Sanu and SPB. I don't know how my voice sounds on the mic... but for whatever it is worth, I am gonna record it. This evening we had rehearsals and quite a few people walked up to me and told me 'suman you sing so well!' Ha ha ha! I feel like I am the kinga the world!

    Mails. Years of mails

I got my first e-mail account - thanks to hotmail - I think in 1996. Since then I have written/received thousands of mails. If you take the case of my fiance and I, e-mail is the only way to communicate, given we live in different towns. E-mail has been (and still is) the bridge that brought us closer. So I had this idea, why not compile a chronologically sorted e-mail 'book'? Obviously it is private and I won't share it with anyone else... but still, isn't it a great idea? That brought the question, 'Is there a way through which I can extract all my mails from my inbox and save it on my computer or something?' (that was my fiance asking the question, I am well aware of 'archive' on my Lotus Notes and Outlook, but the question has relevance if one has only free webmail accounts).
