    Death Toll Crosses 123000 People

And they are saying that Indonesia alone could well have 100,000 dead. A catastrophe of this size and scale takes longer to sink-in. It all seems so surreal. I keep wondering 'Is this same beach where I'd played Volleyball for years? A witness to countless romances? Where kids flew kites in the breezy evenings?' You know it is like your best friend betraying you. It leaves you speechless, and by the time you recover from the shock, your world has changed; like a mud hut that took a Mortar Shell. I sign-off. I can't even tell you 'happy new year'.
Thank you, each one of you. Thanks a lot, you guys are great. We'll be back with more information soon.

Latest Report from Relief Volunteers (Orur Kuppam & Ennore)

Visit to Orur Kuppam and Ennore

As is evident now, the huts and belongings of the families residing in the coasts were washed away on Sunday. Psychological help and reconstructing their lives is a priority now. Volunteers visited the fishing hamlets and slums beyond Ennore and Orur Kuppam in the coast of Besant Nagar today. Casualties were minimum as they all fled to some shelters closeby. Drinking water and wash water is available scarcely. Milk for children is also scarce. Donors of clothes and material reach upto areas where cars can go and distribute food packets and clothes, in small amounts and more often it reaches persons who can access it. Aged persons and those unable to run and scramble for it, do not get it. Government help has come in as immediate relief Rs 2000/- per family. Food is also provided to all but it is difficult for many to wait in the queue and scramble for it. Survival of the fittest seems to be the slogan as far as the resources can reach.

This has led the vitims to stay in relatives homes and cook some food. Government has promised School notebooks and textbooks after the schools reopen. This seems to be the trend in all the places even in the city coastline. Volunteers & NGOs are arranging for 1000 sets of clothes for families and drinking water 2000 packets through Rotary Club of Madras East.

They intend to supply kits consisting of :
    Sleeping mat 2
    Bedsheets - 2
    Plastic Water Kudams- 2
    Cooking vessels 2
    Plates 2
    Tumblers 2
    Pumping Stove 1
    Rice 10 kgs
    Green Gram Dhal 5 kgs
Notebooks and stationery items for children @ Rs 750
    Rs 2000/- per kit

    Things in Demand:
There is a severe short supply of these essential items in Chennai. Personnel to run around for locating the items is also difficult to find. Practically, there is a need to transport this material to remote places where cars cannot reach, so fuel, vehicles, and manpower needs to be taken into account.

Reconstructing their lives needs shelter and livelihood options. They are unwilling to move to a different location as their livelihood depends on the sea. All their children are studying in Govt High schools close by.

They believe help will come subsequently, but are unsure of their future. Any help coming in can be for these direct or indirect costs and expenses.

    Long Term Support and assistance

Besides these, there are long term assistance such as building houses and strengthening Noon meal centre buildings to double up as shelters.

Each of it can cost Rs 100,000/-
Each fishing net costs about Rs 25000/-
    Boats Rs 100,000/-

Assistance in any form can be sent to:
    Relief Foundation
    Ph: 24916854 / 20022821

    Their online account numbers are:

The total number of people dead because of the Tsunami disaster has reached mammoth proportions: 80000 people officially dead. However, Red Cross fears that the number could reach 100,000.
It is believed that one-third of the dead could be children.

High Alert in TN, Andamans, and Kerala Coasts on Possible Tsunami Reccurence

The Met department sounded off a warning on a possible Tsunami attack on the coastal TN and Kerala. It triggered a wave of panic among people in Nagapattinam, the worst hit area in TN. Nanda Kishore, my friend, in Chennai, was in Kovalam with two vanloads of relief supplies but had to post-pone distributing aid to tomorrow because of the Tsunami warning. Nanda told me on phone that choppers announced on PA systems about the possible Tsunami. Authorities are evacuating people from Kovalam. The sea, according to Nanda, appears calm now. 'I guess no one wants to take a chance, over and out!' said Nanda. But Sun TV News says the possibility of another Tsunami hitting the TN coast does not exist.
Elsewhere, Rajiv Sreenivasan offers a mystical perspective that's so NOT needed at this hour. He writes,
The devastation by the tsunami in Tamil Nadu, could it be a caveat from Up There about the atrocities being visited on the Kanchi Acharya? About adharma gaining ground?
There are mysterious forces out there that are not fully understood by our oh-so-rational selves. I am reminded of the strange signs and omens that historians recorded before calamities: for instance the rain of frogs in Vietnam preceding the cataclysmic war. Or the odd celestial signs that preceded the death of Julius Caesar.
It is said that the very elements can be affected by the mystical powers of sages who have acquired superhuman powers through meditation and sadhana. I think we should all tread carefully, for now we are treading on things we do not know. Link on Rediff

Rajiv, do you seriously believe all that? If god or any other power had indeed punished these thousands of innocent people because your fav saint was arrested, and atrocities were visited on him, then all I have to tell YOUR god is this: F*** you god.

"Her father had been washed away by the tsunami and she too was believed to be dead. Then came the miracle. She was washed back on shore from the sea where she had been floating since Sunday on a ripped of door of her home." Link to article on Hindu

    Updates On Relief Efforts

  • The Aussies donated the Prize Money from the 2nd test against Pakistan to the Tsunami relief fund. Take the cue Men in Blue.

  • In Chennai, there seems to be a problem for officials in co-ordinating the relief supplies. Due to lack of proper guidance individuals and NGOs ended up sending food and supplies to areas that had already received such aid. So, if you are planning to send supplies make sure that you are not duplicating effort. There are scores of remote villages in Tamilnadu that need relief.

  • Clean drinking water is the needed in most villages devastated by the Tsunami.

  • People are mass cremating the dead in Tamilnadu. This may result in families not being able to avail of the 1 lakh relief that the governemt announced.

  • Thieves are having a field day in Kerala, thanks to the visiting politicians. Cops were busy taking care of the VIPs, while thieves stole money and gold from victims' homes. What a shame!

  • Government may start a vaccination program for the victims, to arrest the onslaught of communicable diseases like Cholera and Typhoid.
  • Nanda, my friend, has a request to the doctors going to Chennai from Bangalore. He asked me to request the doctors to bring the following:
    List of medicine
    a. Doxycycline
    b. ORS packets
    c. Paracetamol
    d. Septron

    Another Catastrophe In The Making?

    Excerpt from Rediff:
But chief medical officer Dr Thanammal is a worried lady. She said, "One tragedy has already happened and a greater tragedy is waiting to happen. There can be a typhoid or Cholera outbreak here within a week. The incubation period for these diseases is a week. You see the flies buzzing around the corpses? They will spread the disease. We need anti-cholera and anti-typhoid injections for the entire population here. We have made a request to the government and are waiting for supplies."

People should drink only boiled water. The decomposing bodies are contaminating water everywhere, she warned.
"The media should inform the public that an epidemic is staring them in the face and they should take preventive measures," she said.

I request all doctors, pharma companies, and any one that has anything to donate to the medical supplies to rush their contributions immediately.

Death Toll Crosses 40000 Across Asia

Shankar from USA has this information on relief centers:
"...I also got an email from Raj at the Chennai Art of Living group :

We need relief following material for working out the rehab of the people from Srinivasapuram:
    • Old clothes, blankets, sheets etc.

    • Usable but old material such as utensils, buckets that one may want to discard.

    • Medicinces - mostly antibiotics such as Metrogyl, Novaclox, Cifran etc, pain killers - Brufen etc.

    • Non-perishable food items such as rice, dal etc.

Collections centres for the relief material are operating from the following addresses:

    Hamsapriya
    C/o Dr. T. Srinivasan
    "Azhagar"
56, Poes Garden, Opp. Jaya TV
    Phone: 24662486

    Annanagar Centre
    Sonex Towers - 5th floor
    2nd Ave, Annanagar."

Nanda Kishore (nandasethuraman[at]gmail[dot]com) sent me more pictures. Check them out. And thanks to Madman of Shiok Food, I discovered Imageshack - a free image hosting service that allows me to host my images on their server. How does this help you may wonder. I save a lot on bandwidth. Images consume a lot of my bandwidth and yesterday I exhausted my month's quota, in a single day! Because I posted the entire album on my own site. It is another story that it was Madman that posted my site on metaphilter, and it was linked by NY Times... Phew!
    Anyway, more updates:
The death toll has crossed 40000. I hate this. With one swift, devastating blow nature has erased these lives, crippled economies, and left hundreds of thousands homeless. Is it a rude reminder from above on the subject of who is the boss around here? Here goes the country-wide toll:
    Sri Lanka 18,700
    Indonesia 15,000
    India 7,000
    Thailand 1,500
    Somalia 100
    Malaysia 50
    Maldives 50
    Myanmar 30 Source: NDTV.com

Despite the obvious attempt at dramatizing the disaster and the loss of life, NDTV's correspondents did a good job. Barka and her crew, hats-off. I eat my words back.

Politicians Obstruct Relief Measures: A Report By NandaKishore.S

    NandaKishore reports from Chennai:
I had been getting calls continuously that the victims need clothing material urgently. (This is because the city has become cold due to the season and the water-lashing after Sunday). Relief volunteers kept conveying that there was food material distributed regularly by various people, so food was actually aplenty. But, what they lack genuinely is clothing and blankets to save them from the cold.

My friend from Singapore is in Chennai and he wanted to contribute his might to the victims. Hearing the requests from me, he decided to buy blankets for the victims. I took him to a shop and we bought 50 blankets for distributing to the victims. I was also collecting old clothes and when I had considerable inventory, I decided to distribute the same.

This morning I had been to Foreshore Estate to reach some relief material to the victims. They were sleeping on the ground, pavements, under trees, or just about any place they could find. Authorities did not let me into the area where the victims were lodged. The reason: Sonia Gandhi was visiting that place!

Politicians make a mockery of the tragedy and the authorities (including the Police) make it worse by standing by the politicians!

The cops did not let any vehicle (including those carrying relief materials like clothing and food) into the affected area. The same thing happened at Nagapattinam yesterday when Jayalalithaa visited the place to enquire about the tragedy. Is this fair? Why should people with 'Z' category security visit areas that are dangerous and mar efforts by people who genuinely want to help? Why should the cops go all out to provide security to the 'elected representatives' while the 'electorate' is actually suffering? Is this why these people were voted in to power?

I was fortunate enough! A friend of mine was carrying a small vanload of material to Kalpakkam. All I had to do was to reach the material to him. All those other vehicles (very genuine folks that wanted to help by providing food & clothing) went back. I hope they have found other sources to get their material distributed. I feel so sorry that we as a nation are not standing up together at this hour of wanting.

Toll up. Over 2500 dead in Tamilnadu alone. The overall toll in South-Asia is over 13000 but I think it will only go up. My colleague whose hometown is Pondy told me that Nagapattinam-the worst hit town in TN-is all set to become a ghost town as people are getting out of that town (which alone lost more than 1000 lives) to Thiruvarur. Read the Sun News Report
I was not too surprised about NDTV and its coverage of the catastrophe: they started taking it seriously only by the afternoon (yesterday); they were airing Big Fight about beauty pageants or some nonsense like that. Having said that I have to admit Sanjay Pinto is doing a great job for NDTV on the field. Barka Dutt claimed that she discovered scores of dead bodies that were unattended to. Jenifer, meanwhile, caught hold of a girl that was on the beach last morning with her folks, and asked a billion dollar question: 'how does it feel?' to which the girl replied, 'I think we have a lot of luck.' And Jenifer turns to the camera and said, 'not many families had such luck.' Hey for god'ssake, cut the F***** drama man! It is a national catastrophe and I think as TV channels you focus should only be on keeping people informed.
Sun News did a good job of keeping people informed about what was going on.
    ###
    Update from Nanda Kishore:
I went to see if there is something that I can do for those people. I went when I got the first message that the Marina water has entered the city and that the water has come out till Mandaveli. I took my camera for any picture possibilities, mobile to keep in touch and some money. I wasn't sure if it was true. So it didn't occur to me that I should also carry something for those people.

But when I reached there, I realized that I couldn't have carried enough for all those people running out of their homes. Some drenched till their hips, some till their chest, some all over and some of them were so drenched that they had already stopped breathing. Men and women, old and young, all were running for lives. It was a horrible site to see. The relief workers could not attend to all the dead and all the alive. The dead were dropped and the half alive were carried to safety. Old women had to be carried in chairs or transported by rickshaws. People scrambled what they could from their homes and could not check if they had carried enough. There is a pic of a couple checking if they have carried enough in the middle of the road. Lucky couple! They could at least do that! Many could not carry anything from home, because they had to run for their lives. And many couldn't run for their lives, because they were already dead. Helicopters were hovering around to try and salvage the alive (if any). It was a sad scene. It is true that we as a nation are ill prepared for such crisis situations. But I couldn't even blame the authorities here. They were just taken aback by the gravity of the situation. It was just too much for them. The Police Station in Foreshore estate was submerged in knee deep water when I had been that side.

It is probably by luck that I got the head of the buffalo in the picture where there is a dead body on the platform. It now seems prophetic, for according to the Hindu mythology, Lord Yama (the god of death) rides on a buffalo.

There were people who wanted the pictures I had taken for publishing. There were people who had just come to see if it was true. There were people laughing as if it was a Jim Carry movie. There were people crying because it was someone close to them who was missing. Reports now say that around 5000 fishermen have been reported missing.
I also do turtle walks and I know a little about their lives. They venture into the sea at 3 or 4 in the morning. God knows when they would come back. Typically each trip would take 2-3 days. Tough life for them. Tough luck for them.

I pray God for those people who lost their lives and for those who lost their kith & kin because of this tragedy.

May their soul rest in peace. AMEN.

    26 Dec 2004

    Nanda Kishore of Brandrecall.org reports:
"I wanted to see what was going on and see if I could help. There is no beach on the Marina beach; it is filled with water. Throngs of people are leaving there homes. And, I saw dead bodies floating around. It is sad. Really sad." Nanda also shot pictures of the calamity that befell South-Asia and killed more than 3000 people (as of now, the toll in all probability will be higher). Update:The pictures are back onlinethanks to Imageshack. I have removed the links to the online album as I can't afford the bandwidth. My site went down for a few hours earlier. However, if you want to see the pictures or buy them, mail to nandasethuraman [at] gmail [dot] com.

Chennai experienced mild tremors at about 07:30 hours this morning. And around 08:30 tidal waves from the sea invaded the city's coastal areas, wreaking havoc among people living along the shore. At the time it was reported on TV only 23 people were reported dead. But now, it looks like the toll is well over 150 in Chennai alone.
The killer Tsunami unleashed its fury across the coastline of three states including A.P.; Orissa; and TN. The government is coming to terms with the magnitude of the situation and relief work has started, with the Coast Guard, Para-military forces engaged in evacuation and relief work.

Please share your experiences here. God bless. If you are in Chennai think of contributing to the relief measures.

However, I fell in love with the Coconut Rice and the Red Chilly Sauce! That Sauce rocks. It reminded me of the Pandu Mirapakai Pachhadi from A.P. Yummy.
It came as a pleasant surprise when I learnt that Anita did all the paintings in the restaurant. Very cool. And Arun LIT is by far the best cocktail I have had in Bangalore. Trust you enjoyed it.
Folks, if you want some great food and some nice cocktails look no further.
I think we should do a blogger meet in Bangalore. What say?

    Baazee.com CEO arrested

Cops arrested Avnish Bajaj, CEO, Bazee.com in connection with the School Kids Porn MMS case. This follows the arrest of an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) student, on charges of selling the clip on Baazee.com for 125 rupees.

So, do not, repeat, do not distribute stuff like pirated music (Mp3s) or videos that violate copyright, on your blogs. It is an offence. If your blog has more than one authors, please ask your blog team to be careful about copyright violation. Can someone tell me about the law on linking to pictures from other website by linking to them (img src="location of the image on the other site like bbc") on one's blog?

    Message to Raj

Raj you said in your comment that Chennai is a 'left-over rice eaters place'. If you had said it in person, I would have shoved a pound of Poha and Jalebi up your throat (unless you'd wanted me to do it the other way round). However, I leave it to my readers here.
What does a Chennai guy know about good food? Good question. I leave the job of answering it-again-to my readers.

I can understand your angst. Civilization can offend people from pre-historic towns.

    Biomimicry FAQ

Someone said that When you get too close to a tree you miss out on the forest. We, humans, went off on a tanget, away from the wisdom that was so close to us, and tried reinventing the wheel (no pun intended)... instead of just taking a closer look how momma nature does it better.

"Nature takes a different approach. Because an organism makes materials like bone or collagen or silk right in its own body, it doesn't make sense to "heat, beat, and treat." A spider, for instance, produces a waterproof silk that beats the pants off Kevlar for toughness and elasticity. Ounce for ounce, it's five times stronger than steel! But the spider manufactures it in water, at room temperature, using no high heats, chemicals, or pressures. Best of all, it doesn't need to drill offshore for petroleum; it takes flies and crickets at one end and produces this miracle material at the other. In a pinch, the spider can even eat part of its old web to make a new one.
Imagine what this kind of a processing strategy would do for our fiber industry! Renewable raw materials, great fibers, and negligible energy and waste. We obviously have a lot to learn from an organism that has been making silk for some 380 million years.
The truth is, organisms have managed to do everything we want to do, without guzzling fossil fuels, polluting the planet, or mortgaging their future. What better models could there be?"

Actors in the wrong side of limelight

What's with the actors I wonder. First it was Trisha in the news over a video clip that people alleged was shot while she was taking a shower in her hotel room in Hyderabad. Next, is Karina and Shahid. Mid-day published pictures of a couple smooching and claimed it was Karina and Shahid. And of course Karina denied it was her. She apparently told the press, "I can never do such a thing in a restaurant." Ha ha. What a way to refute a claim. And Shahid said, "I am shocked and upset over such photographs and also because the newspaper did not approach us for any clarification." Sure. I mean the next time, we'll remind them to call you to check if it was you, really at it.
I am not going to debate on whether it was them or not. Or about the ethics of our media (I didn't know they that they had any). My point is actors should stick to acting only in movies, and not tap into their repertoire while fighting rumors or exposes. Else, you'll make complete fools of yourselves. 'I can never do such a thing in a restaurant' does not excatly qualify as intelligent. Does it, now? Never mind, that was some excitement for us, in our otherwise routine lives.

End of an era: MS is no more.

M.S. Subbulakshmi, greatest Carnatic vocalist ever, passed away last Saturday. She has left a huge void in the Carnatic arena and I'd term it as the greatest loss that we have experienced in the recent times.
MS - as she was called affectionately called- stopped singing after her husband, Thiyagaraja Sadasivam, passed away in 1997.
    M.S. Subbulakshmi. Pic from hinduonnet.com
I am not a big follower of Carnatic music, but without realizing that MS sang it, I used to wake up to Suprabatham all my childhood. Most of MS's works strike a chord, for I grew up listening to her (not knowing who the vocalist was!). The funny thing is I used to argue with some folks that lay people do not appreciate Carnatic music (while I used to wake up to MS, breakfast with Jesudas, and welcome dusk with Ghantasala's Bhagavad Gita!) as it is a complex form of music; but I take it back now. For her, the nightingale, M.S. Subbulakshmi. May her soul rest in peace.

And thanks to my grand ma and mom for involuntarily hooking me up to some divine music.

Wonder why not many bloggers blogged about it. I mean yes, Trisha is exciting and all... never mind!

    Why I love Firefox

    Get Firefox
    • Firefox has an in-built popup blocker.

    • Firefox saves your screenspace through its tabbed-browsing feature. Firefox allows for opening multiple sites using tabs (within
one instance), unlike IE that opens a separate instance of the browser everytime you open a new window. What it means is that you could be browsing 20 sites, but there is only one Firefox window. Very cool.

    • Firefox allows you to highlight your search results. When you are searching for a keyword on a webpage (ctrl+f) you can set Firefox to highlight the matches.

    • FireFox Allows you to search dictionary.com (without having to visit dictionary.com).

    • Firefox is RSS friendly. It auto-detects RSS feeds from any website and allows you to bookmark it as a 'live bookmark'. Refresh the bookmark to see what's latest (through a drop-down).

    • Firefox allows you to select text from a web page using your keyboard! Yes, you can scroll through the page using the arrow keys. Hit F7 on your Firefox and check it out.

And, migrating to Firefox is a breeze. Firefox imports your existing settings from Internet Explorer. An import wizard will run when you first install Firefox (and is also available later through the File menu, File > Import), and it imports your Favorites, options, cookies, stored passwords, and a variety of other data. This saves you time customizing Firefox to fit your needs.
Also, the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT), a division of the Department of Homeland Security, recommends switching from IE to an alternative browser, thanks to certain severe security exploits in IE.
So, what are you waiting for? Download Firefox now!

    Top 10 Most Irritating Things

Talking in a language that a person in the group does not understand:
You must have experienced it sometime or the other, people rambling away in a tongue that you don't understand. And when they laugh, you'd think 'Is the joke on me'?
Please always talk in a tongue that every body in the group understands. Even if one person has problem understanding your language, switch to a common tongue.
Spitting on the road: A few days back, a guy driving a Hyundai Sonata and clad in an expensive suit, opened the door of his car at the traffic light and spat a few liters of Pan spittle. I was disgusted and I asked him how he could do this to his city. He did not respond. Remember, education without civic sense is useless. You could be the CEO of a Fortune 500 company, but if you spit on the roads, you are nothing but a piece of dirt and you will end up in hell, tied to a chair, facing a diarrhea-stricken Skunk's behind.
Honking: For some people honking is involuntary; it is almost like a fetish for them. They cannot ride or drive without the accompaniment of the 'honk-ho-honk-hon-honk', from start to finish. These people honk to kill time in a traffic jam. These people should be thrown to Gorillas in heat. Do not honk unless your life depends on it, okay? I am warning you I have that 'Squeeze Gently' horn from the movie Mask.
Reading what's on your colleague's PC screen: I have had people reading out what was on my screen, while I glared at them in disgust, anger, and shock. A half-decent person would not do it. People who invade privacy should be dumped, half-naked, in Alaska, preferably during the mating season of Polar bears.
Cutting the queue: You must have noticed these smart asses walking ahead of you in the line at the office cafeteria? Talking non-stop to his friend and not even looking at you? Yea? And then when you tell him, 'excuse me but there's a ****ing line here'? and he'd go 'oh! I am so sorry!' Don't trust these guys. It is an elaborate ploy to cut the queue; the talk with the friend and avoiding your eye. These guys should be dropped in boiling vegetable oil.
Haggling with the parking attendant: Now, that hurts me man. I have seen software engineers that wont mind paying a colossal entry fee (not cover mind you) in some hip-ass club; but they'd start fighting with the parking lot guy over a couple of bucks. These morons should be exiled to Pluto.
Letting your hand-phone ring in meetings and movie halls: I have nothing to say about these people. I am glad I am not their boss. I'd probably make them clean the public toilets in the city bus station. With their heads.
Calling a waiter by snapping your fingers or whistling: Yeah, if you do that then you're not a good human being and god will not let you gate crash into his party and all that. But there's a better reason why you should not insult a waiter or treat him like he is your doormat: they can pee in your food and you won't even know it. Hoo-ha! So stuff your attitude where it belongs and be a courteous guy. Any way that girl's going to dump you, so, why try to impress her by pissing off the waiter?
Driving or riding on the wrong side of the road: When you are riding or driving in India, you can't keep right. Keep left fruit-cake, or you'll be run over and reduced to crow-chow. What's your middle name? Stupid?
Swearing that software was your passion since you were four: I will have you watch Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (dubbed in English) if you told me that you have always wanted to be a software coder. I will have you go on a blind date with Anu Malik (and possibly make him sing for you too)... don't start me on that one.

    Iraq: New Prisoner-abuse pictures

The young men that'd probably be court-martialed for their inhuman acts. But, I would like to think that they were 'normal' men before they entered Iraq. Full credit to Bush for converting some of America's bright young people from 'normal' to 'maniacal'.

    It's the law baby

    Check this out.

"...one of the blogs from a Chennai software professional recently raised a huge controversy for posting an information about the existence of a video clipping of a famous actress called Trisha in which she had been secretly filmed while bathing in a Hotel room. This post attracted hundreds of curious enquiries from the blog visitors including some who pleaded for the source of the clip and even offered to pay money or exchange other similar stuff. One of the visitors even posted a link from which the clip was available. As a result of all these activities the blog contained information, discussions and the source of the offending clip which was obscene.

Ultimately the blog owner realized that it was a mistake to take up the topic for discussion and removed the posting along with the offending link from his site."

    Sorry Everybody!

Some folks, worried about what the rest of the world might think of Americans after the re-election of war-monger Bush, wanted to apologize to the world. They created SorryEverybody.com.
Here's what the site's creators say about it:
"Most people who think carefully understand that Americans are not really any more jingoistic or xenophobic than people in other countries, but it never hurts to reinforce, especially considering what happened on November 2nd, 2004. What must it have looked like to the world outside our borders? America proudly re-appointed its reckless, incompetent and corrupt government. How much of America? Fifty-two percent. The rest of us are aghast and dismayed.

Lots of fuss is made about the global village. The Internet was supposed to make communication between cultures, countries and peoples painless and easy. It was supposed to build bridges. But it doesn't do this automatically; somebody has to reach out. The Internet was supposed to lead to education and understanding. It doesn't. Rarely do people on the internet apologize. I thought it was high time. The world needs to understand that there are people in America who don't like what our government is doing. And from the mail we're receiving, there are people in the international community who appreciate this.
Also, come on, it's kind of amusing."

They have a gallery that show cases all people that are sorry! Neat.
